Letterpress is the oldest form of printing, tracing its roots to 15th century Europe. Originally, type was carved from wood, and later it was cast from metal. In this method, a surface with raised letters is inked and pressed into the paper, which results in a visible impression that is unparalleled by other forms of printing. A great deal of skill and craftmanship is required in letterpress printing, as each piece is individually handled and pressed.
Letterpress printing is heralded for its unique beauty and tactile quality, attributes that were lost after it was replaced by faster and cheaper printing methods of the 20th century. The inherent value and uncommon results of using the letterpress technique makes our work a labor of love that we are proud to offer our Mirabel clients.
